Experience From Survey to Site

Good roofing depends upon more than the people physically installing the roof. It requires accurate surveying, appropriate specification, commercial control, procurement, site coordination, skilled workmanship and proper project records.

Neal Roofing brings those functions together within a structured roofing business operated by Geoff Neal (Roofing) Limited. Our team combines practical roofing experience with estimating, surveying, finance, administration and site supervision.

That structure allows responsibility to remain clear throughout a project — from the first inspection and quotation through to delivery, completion and aftercare.

Our work includes modern and traditional roofing, leadwork, heritage buildings, commercial projects, roof replacement, repairs and associated building-envelope work.

LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

A Clear Structure of Responsibility

Our management and administrative team provides the commercial, technical and operational structure behind Neal Roofing’s projects. Different members of the team become involved according to the nature, scale and requirements of the work.

Oliver Neal

Commercial Director

Oliver joined the family roofing business in 2003 following university and has subsequently worked across estimating, surveying, contracts, project delivery and business management.

As Commercial Director, Oliver has responsibility for the commercial and strategic direction of Neal Roofing, with particular involvement in major enquiries, technical and contractual matters, project development and the systems used to manage work from survey through to completion.

His experience includes specialist roofing, traditional construction, heritage work and the commercial management of complex roofing projects.

Colin

Estimating & Surveying

Colin supports the front end of project delivery through site inspection, estimating, measurement and development of project scope.

His practical and technical approach helps translate the condition of a building and the requirements of the client into a structured proposal for the Works.

He also assists with technical assessment, supplier and subcontractor enquiries and the preparation of quotations for projects ranging from repairs to more substantial roofing work.

Jonny

Site Supervisor

Jonny provides site-level supervision and coordination across Neal Roofing projects, helping connect the project information prepared before commencement with the practical delivery of the Works.

His role includes coordination of operatives, site requirements, progress information and communication between the roofing team and management.

Jane Thompson

Finance Director

Jane has been part of the business since 2002 and provides continuity and financial oversight across Neal Roofing.

As Finance Director, Jane is responsible for the company’s financial administration and controls, including accounts, project financial information, supplier administration and wider financial management.

Her long-standing knowledge of the business provides an important link between project delivery, administration and the company’s commercial responsibilities.

Jill

Administration

Jill has supported the business since 2012 and provides day-to-day administrative support across enquiries, project records, correspondence and general office coordination.

Her role helps maintain the information flow between clients, management and site teams and supports the records associated with projects from instruction through to completion.

One Project. One Record. Survey information, quotation, correspondence, Variations, site records, invoices and completion documentation are increasingly managed as a connected project record.
Defined Responsibility Commercial, financial, estimating, administrative and site functions are separated so that projects are not dependent upon a single individual.
CRAFT & DELIVERY

Skilled Roofing Operatives

Behind the management structure is the workforce responsible for delivering the physical roofing work.

Our site teams include operatives experienced in traditional and modern roofing techniques. Competence, qualifications and training requirements are considered according to role and the work being undertaken.

The skills available across our workforce include:

  • natural and artificial slate roofing;
  • clay and concrete roof tiling;
  • traditional sheet leadwork;
  • heritage roofing techniques;
  • flat roofing systems;
  • roof repairs and maintenance;
  • roof stripping and replacement;
  • working at height;
  • roof detailing and weathering; and
  • associated building-envelope work.

Where a project requires a skill or system outside the appropriate competence of our own workforce, we can appoint a suitably qualified specialist rather than attempting to undertake specialist work without the required experience.

Competence & Training

Training is managed as an ongoing requirement rather than a one-off exercise. Records are maintained for relevant qualifications, cards and training undertaken by members of the workforce.

Depending upon role, training and qualifications across the business may include:

  • NVQ roofing qualifications
  • Roof slating and tiling
  • Heritage roof slating and tiling
  • Leadwork and metal roofing
  • Traditional hard metals
  • Manufacturer-specific roofing systems
  • CSCS competency cards appropriate to role
  • Working at height
  • Harness use and inspection
  • Scaffold inspection
  • PASMA tower training
  • Manual handling
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
  • Construction management qualifications
  • Scaffold inspection training
  • First aid
  • Fire safety
  • Heritage roofing
  • Sheet leadwork
  • Hard metals
  • Single-ply roofing systems
  • Flat roofing systems
  • Roofing standards and technical guidance
  • Plant and equipment training where relevant
Project-specific competence

Not every operative holds every qualification listed above. The competence, training and supervision required for a project are considered according to the work being undertaken and the individual’s role.

SPECIALIST DELIVERY

Specialist Subcontractors

Roofing projects sometimes require specialist trades beyond the principal roofing scope. Where appropriate, Neal Roofing works with suitably experienced subcontractors and specialists so that these elements can be incorporated into the wider project.

Hard Metals & Specialist Roofing

Where zinc, copper, stainless steel or other specialist metal roofing requires skills or capacity beyond the appropriate in-house resource, specialist metal roofing contractors may be engaged.

Masonry & Traditional Building Work

Roofing work to older and historic buildings frequently interfaces with masonry, chimneys, parapets and traditional construction. Experienced stonemasons, bricklayers or traditional builders may therefore form part of the project team where required.

External Decoration

Where roofing projects include associated external decoration, specialist decorating contractors may be used to provide the appropriate preparation and finish.

Heritage Specialists

Listed, ecclesiastical and historically significant buildings can require specialist conservation knowledge outside the core roofing scope. This may include conservation professionals, specialist glazing contractors or other heritage trades.

Archaeology & Other Specialists

Certain historic sites may require archaeological or other professional input where the nature of the building or site demands it. Appropriate specialists can be incorporated where required by the project, design team or statutory authority.

Managed as Part of the Project

Where Neal Roofing appoints a specialist subcontractor as part of our contracted scope, their work is coordinated within the wider project rather than leaving the client to manage multiple disconnected trades.

COMPETENCE & COMPLIANCE

Standards Behind the Team

Competent people require competent systems. Neal Roofing’s project delivery is supported by documented health & safety arrangements, technical guidance, project records and defined contractual processes.

Depending upon the work, relevant technical standards may include BS 5534 for slating and tiling, BS 6915 for leadwork, BS 6229 for flat roofs and applicable Building Regulations.

Our approach is to connect the people undertaking the work with the information required to undertake it correctly.

THE NEXT GENERATION

Investing in Roofing Skills for the Future

Roofing remains a skilled trade. Modern construction is becoming more technically demanding at the same time as many traditional craft skills are becoming increasingly scarce.

For Neal Roofing, developing people means maintaining both sides of that equation: understanding current regulation, safety and roofing technology while retaining the practical skills required for slate, tile, lead and historic buildings.

We therefore support continued learning, practical development and, where appropriate, formal vocational training as part of maintaining a capable workforce for the future.
