Is a leaking roof an emergency?

A roof that leaks is a problem regardless of the weather and what has caused it. The severity of the leak will determine an emergency. If your roof suddenly develops a leak in a storm it could quickly turn into an emergency. Finding the cause of the leak can take time if the leak is coming from a hole in the roof it is likely the ceiling is saturated and has begun to seep through the drywall. We recommend you staunch the dripping and make a temporary repair until a roofing professional can take a look.

How much will it cost to repair my leaking roof?

Firstly we will need to locate the cause of the leak to establish how big the problem is. Once the cause has been identitifed a fix can be presented along with costs and timeframe associated.

Who to call when there is a leak?

Make a temporary patch to stem the leak, and contact a professional roofing contractor such as GNR Roofing. We will visit your address and assess the situation to find out what is going on and provide you with a quote to fix.

So what makes a roof leak?

Noticed any damp patches on your ceiling? Or stained plaster up high? These are sure fire giveaways that your roof could have a leak. Once a leak becomes visible inside your home it can be awkward and frustrating to track and trace its originating spot and of course repair any damage along the way.

A leak is born from water finding its way through a broken slate or tile, it will then flow down to the lowest point and begin to pool. Once enough has collected it can easily find its way through a breach in the lining. Usually, our most common causes of a leak are;

  • Damaged/crack roof tiles
  • Damaged lead flashing
  • Obstructed or damaged roof valley
  • Cracked ridge tiles or loose mortar on the verge tiles

Can I just fix the roof myself?

Going lone ranger and attempting to fix your roof is risky business. After all fixing your leaking roof is working at height and requires a high level of skill and concentration, therefore, it is highly recommended you employ a professional roofing contractor to undertake the job for you. In the meantime, you can take a look at the roof from the safety of the ground using a camera and zooming in or if you have them an old pair of binoculars. Scan the roof for any obvious items from the list above and let us know the issue.

Should I Ignore a leak?

Prevention is better than cure when dealing with this kind of thing. Especially for a roof. We advise you to monitor your roof regularly so you can notice any issues as early on as possible. You can usually catch and fix minor problems before they become major ones.

Simple leaks can quickly escalate into damp issues within the home and lead to further repair costs including plastering, decorating and replacing sections of your roof. So if you have noticed something strange then contact us and we will take a look for you.
