A Busy June for Neal Roofing

June 2022 brought together a varied programme of work, from a major church roof replacement in Leeds to residential slate, leadwork and listed-building projects in York and North Yorkshire.

Some projects were beginning, some were active on site and others were approaching completion. This page is therefore a historical project update, not a list of current live sites.

Alongside the featured schemes, Neal Roofing’s repair teams continued to deliver smaller works and reactive maintenance through the company’s Yorkshire roofing services.

Why Project Records Matter

A detailed archive helps property owners review relevant experience, understand the materials involved and see how access, insulation, rainwater goods and specialist roofing details are coordinated on real buildings.

Leeds · Ecclesiastical · Zinc Roofing

All Hallows Church, Leeds

A major sixteen-week project replacing approximately 600 m² of deteriorated concrete-tile covering with a standing-seam zinc roof.

The low-pitched existing roof had experienced water ingress and tile deterioration. The replacement required the roof covering, insulation build-up, substrate, clips, ventilation and drainage to be treated as one coordinated system.

Zinc was selected to suit the roof form and provide a robust, lightweight covering capable of accommodating thermal movement through fixed and sliding clip positions.

York · Residential Re-Roofing

Heathers Nursery

The Heathers Nursery re-roofing programme was approaching completion during June 2022.

01

Complete Roof Overhaul

The project record confirms a comprehensive overhaul rather than a limited isolated repair.

02

Roofline and Drainage

Fascias, soffits and rainwater goods were considered alongside the main covering.

Roof Replacement Is Wider Than the Visible Covering

Fascias, soffits, gutters, outlets, ventilation and roof-edge details can all affect long-term durability.

Pickering · Penrhyn Slate · Specialist Leadwork

Elleron Lodge

Slate roofing and leadwork remained active while other trades completed the areas required for the roofing programme to continue.

The wider project involved multiple roof areas and a proposed programme of approximately twenty weeks.

It demonstrates why large slate and leadwork projects need coordinated sequencing between roofing, masonry, glazing, carpentry and other specialist packages.

Bootham, York · Grade II Listed

Listed-Building Re-Roofing in Bootham

Work was scheduled to begin on complete replacement of the roof coverings and associated leadwork to a Grade II listed terraced property.

Listed-building roofing requires more than selecting a visually similar product. Existing fabric, slate size and pattern, leadwork, abutments, mortar, timber details and the effect of changes on significance may all need assessment.

Consent and Conservation Requirements

Work affecting the character of a listed building may require Listed Building Consent. Owners should confirm the position with the relevant local planning authority before work begins.
