The Materials

  • The slates on the property were stripped, set aside and re-fixed as part of the work and all of the lead lined perimeter gutters were replaced to modern standards in accordance with Lead Sheet Association guidelines. A substantial amount of joinery was needed to ensure the new lead linings were not only compliant but also allowed the effective discharge of rainwater into the building’s many internal and external rain water pipes.

As a matter of course, where reclaimed roofing materials are used our go to supplier is The Reclaimed Company.

The Project

The Bar Convent in York is England’s oldest working Convent and was founded in 1686. The project required a very specific skill set in terms of the external restoration and sensitivity towards the residents living there. GNR were awarded the contract to undertake extensive re-roofing work above the main convent. The project involved a substantial amount of functional and decorative lead work including a lead dome. The re-roofing project was carried out over an 8 week period and involved a number of our highly trained and skilled trades people to ensure that every detail was correctly executed.
