Project Description:
GNR was engaged to find a sympathetic solution to replacing the roof coverings on this large detached property in Harrogate.
The original roof coverings had reached the end of their useful life but the client liked their appearance.
Our challenge was to find a replacement tile that would not look too different from what was originally installed.
Further, there were a number of details that required some alterations to future proof the roof areas.
In particular, the existing lead flat roof area had been a constant source of water ingress for our client has had the two valley linings that fed down to it.
The valley linings were enlarged and the lead roof covering was replaced along with the existing substrate. Moreover, the client had complained that the flat roof was noisy during periods of heavy rain so the replacement of the lead roof covering along with the deck allowed the opportunity to provide insulation along with noise reduction methods.
As the entire rear elevation of the property was discharged onto the lead flat roof we were concerned about what might happen if the outlet were to be blocked by leaves or ice. As a fail-safe, an overflow weir was installed along with a heat trace tape to melt a build-up of ice in the outlet or fall pipe.
Attention to detail was again paramount to the successful execution of this residential roofing project.
The chosen materials in our view provide the perfect aged look for a new roof tile and the new leadwork provides both functionality and aesthetics.
