The Ffestiniog Quarry experienced a prolonged closure of over a decade, halting the production of its esteemed blue-grey slate.

As of early 2023, following its reopening after a decade-long closure, the Ffestiniog slate quarry has recruited more than 20 staff to resume operations.

At its peak in the 1870s, the quarry employed over 2,500 individuals and produced approximately 10 million slates annually.
